Theocharous
Doctor of Chinese Medicine
(Acupuncturist and Herbalist)
Charis Theocharous was
born and raised up in
Limassol, a coastal city
located in the southern part of the beautiful island
of
Cyprus.
In 1983, he was
granted a scholarship, which enabled him to study in
China: first for two years
at the
Beijing Language and Culture
University (BLCU),
and then for five years at the Department of
Acupuncture, Moxibustion, and Therapeutic Massage of
the
Beijing University of Chinese Medicine
(BUCM).
Immediately after his graduation in 1990, he was
granted a second scholarship, which enabled him to
follow a three-year postgraduate program at the
Dong Zhi Men Hospital (the First University Hospital of
the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine), where
he did further practice and research and he was
finally granted the title of Master of Clinical
Medicine.

As part of his
education he studied directly, on a one-to-one
basis, under two distinguished Masters of Chinese
Medicine, professor Chen Zifu and professor Zhang
Guorui, and absorbed a great part of their clinical
and teaching experience. Both of them guided him to
carry out his clinical work and taught him the way
of integrating theory and practice. Upon his
graduation, in 1993, he was already an experienced
clinician, being able to carry out correct diagnoses
and successfully treat a wide variety of ailments.

In 1993, Dr.
Theocharous returned to Cyprus and since then he has
been practicing Traditional Chinese Medicine, integrating
Chinese Herbal Medicine with
Acupuncture,
Moxibustion and
Chinese Therapeutic Massage (Tui-Na).
He maintains
private practices in both
Limassol and Nicosia, and he is
available to consult on a wide range of conditions
and diseases.
In 2001, the
Cyprus
Council for the Recognition of Higher Education
Qualifications accredited the Beijing University of
Chinese Medicine (BUCM) and recognized his academic titles
of Bachelor of Medicine (Acupuncture, Moxibustion
and Chinese Therapeutic Massage) and Master of
Clinical Medicine. Since then, he is active in the
battle for the legal recognition of the specialty of
Acupuncture in Cyprus.

He is one of the cofounders and the
chairman of the
Pan-Cyprian
Association of Acupuncturists Limited. He is
also being
admitted as an individual member of the
Pan-European
Federation of Traditional Chinese Medicine Societies
(PEFOTS) and as an Overseas Member of the
Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine (UK). |
