Hopi Ear
Candling
(Thermo Auricular Therapy)

Hopi ear
candling (or coning) is an ancient natural therapy that has been
handed down by many civilizations. It is believed
that the Ancient Greeks used ear candles, initially
for cleansing, purifying and healing on a spiritual
basis, but much later on a purely physical basis.
However, the practice reached the modern world via
the Native American Hopi Indians of North Arizona
and was traditionally used by shaman healers. The
candles are still made on the basis of the old
traditional formula originating from the Hopi
Indians and they are used as a relaxing treatment to
ease away the stresses of our Western culture and to
address a number of problems relating to the ear,
nose and throat area.
The
process of Hopi ear candling involves a specially
designed hollow candle that is being inserted just
inside the ear canal and lit, vaporizing its
ingredients and causing convectional air flow
towards the first chamber of the ear. The vapors
give the eardrum and the auditory canal a gentle
massage and help to regulate ear pressure. A mild
suction is also formed enabling wax and other
impurities to be drawn out of the ear. The treatment
is very relaxing and gentle and includes a facial
massage to enhance its benefits.
